BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 1. Azerbaijan has great potential as a green powerhouse in the region, Deputy Head of Mission at the UK Embassy Edward Evans said during a seminar titled "Introduction to voluntary carbon markets in Azerbaijan" in Baku today, TurkicWorld reports.
"Carbon pricing plays a very important role in this, which is a truly important issue, while the UK is a leader and partner of Azerbaijan in this regard," he emphasized.
Evans noted that the UK is all in when it comes to carbon markets, backing them both at home and on the global stage.
This is why, according to him, the UK is pleased to work with Azerbaijan to assist these markets in reaching their maximum potential.
"In 2005, we introduced our own carbon pricing, and since then, we have reduced emissions by more than 40 percent while simultaneously growing our economy. Therefore, I believe the UK has proven that it's possible not only to reduce emissions but also to use this as a way to stimulate economic growth. Global carbon markets help attract much-needed funding for developing countries," he added.
