The head of the State Tax Service under the Ministry of Economy of Azerbaijan, Orkhan Nazarli, met with the Deputy of the Chief Revenue Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Margaret Cotton, as part of the International Forum on Carbon Pricing held in Baku, TurkicWorld reports via the State Tax Service.
During the meeting, the importance of expanding ties with the IMF was emphasized, particularly in supporting projects aimed at improving the business environment and fostering public-private partnerships.
"The significance of this forum, co-organized by the State Tax Service and the European Organization of Tax Administrations (IOTA), was highlighted, along with the relevance of its topics. Support for a green economy and accelerating the transition to low-carbon business solutions are primary focuses for countries.
In particular, decarbonization while maintaining stable economic activity, applying a fair approach, and supporting the business environment is an area of interest for the international community. The mechanisms for carbon pricing and the introduction of carbon taxes require thorough examination.
The head of the State Tax Service mentioned that Azerbaijani tax authorities have analyzed this direction and studied international practices. Both sides exchanged views on the role of fiscal instruments in the decarbonization process.
Opportunities to strengthen partnerships with the IMF regarding the use of tax tools to develop a sustainable and competitive economy, enhance the business environment, and promote public-private partnerships were also discussed. The parties shared insights on priority areas for collaboration and the progress made in fostering international connections among tax authorities," the State Service said.
