Switzerland's private sector shows interest in expanding Middle Corridor

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 2. The Swiss private sector is observing the development of the Middle Corridor with interest, Guy Bonvin, deputy head of mission, deputy head of Regional Cooperation at the Embassy of Switzerland to Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, told TurkicWorld

He pointed out that the transport route from China to Europe via Central Asia and the South Caucasus is currently under rapid development: transport and logistics capacities are being modernized and expanded.

"This corridor will facilitate trade substantially and position the region as a transit hub. The improved transcontinental connectivity will lead to more efficient supply chains and better market access, which is good news, also for Swiss companies.

Switzerland has numerous assets to offer in the infrastructure sector, which could be interesting in the context of the Middle corridor: Examples are public transportation in general, railroads, roads/bridges/tunnels and engineering services. Swiss companies specializing in freight tracking and logistics can also offer innovative solutions," added Bonvin.

The Middle Corridor, or TITR, is a transportation and trade route that connects Asia and Europe, passing through several countries in the region. It is an alternative route to the traditional Northern Corridor and Southern Corridor.

The route starts in China and crosses Central Asian countries such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. It then passes through the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye before reaching Europe.
