Prague hosts COP29 event within OSCE Forum

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 13. An event entitled "COP29: Promoting Solidarity and Unity in Addressing the Challenges of Climate Change through Broadening Ambition and Encouraging Action" was held in Prague under the auspices of the Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan to the OSCE within the framework of the 31st OSCE Economic and Environmental Forum, TurkicWorld reports via Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The event was moderated by the Chair of the OSCE Committee on Economic and Environmental Issues and Permanent Representative of Austria to the OSCE Florian Raunig.

Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister and Chief Negotiator for COP29, Yalchin Rafiyev, also participated and delivered a speech.

Rafiyev highlighted the severe global impacts of climate change and outlined Azerbaijan’s preparations for hosting COP29 in November. He provided updates on the negotiation process, Azerbaijan’s 14 proposed initiatives, and the country's efforts towards energy transition and climate policy. Rafiyev emphasized Azerbaijan’s commitment to inclusivity and cooperation in the fight against climate change and noted that the COP29 presidency is in close contact with various partners.

OSCE representative Bakyt Dzhusupov noted that climate change is a central focus for the OSCE, with several commitments and activities related to this issue. He discussed the organization’s plans to participate in COP29.

Participants of the event underscored the importance of Azerbaijan’s leadership in enhancing international cooperation on climate action, building trust, and increasing global efforts. They expressed their support for Azerbaijan’s ongoing efforts.

The Economic and Environmental Forum is the OSCE’s largest annual event, serving as a platform for discussing member states' commitments to economic and environmental activities and measures to fulfill these obligations.
