Azerbaijan to build cargo airport in Alat FEZ

BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 16. A cargo airport will be built in the Alat FEZ of Azerbaijan, Chairman of the Board of the Alat Free Economic Zone (FEZ) Valeh Alasgarov said at the second Baku Forum on Sustainable Development, TurkicWorld reports.

"The airport will start operating no later than the first quarter of 2026. At the first stage, its capacity will be 500,000 tons per year, and with further gradual increase, it will reach 1.1 trillion tons per year," Alasgarov said.

Alasgarov also said that the Azerbaijani government has reserved more than 7,000 hectares for further expansion of the Alat FEZ.

In addition, he noted that the location of the Alat FEZ at the intersection of trade corridors plays an extremely important role.

Alasgarov also highlighted the creation of favorable conditions for investors in the FEZ.

"We provide investors and businesses with fiscal and non-fiscal advantages, such as exemption from VAT and taxes on exports and imports from the Alat FEZ," he said.

The holding of the second Baku Forum on Sustainable Development is aimed at strengthening the exchange of experience and cooperation with the countries of the region and international organizations in the implementation of the UN Agenda for the period up to 2030.

The event is attended by high-ranking officials from Europe and CIS countries, representatives of the UN, international financial and regional organizations, government institutions, representatives of civil society and the private sector, as well as experts.
