US, Japan and South Korea defense ministers sign memorandum of cooperation

Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin and the defense ministers of Japan and the Republic of Korea Minoru Kihara and Shin Won-sik have signed a memorandum in Tokyo as part of an agreement on trilateral security cooperation and announced its entry into force, statement released by the US military department said, TurkicWorld reports.

This document, as explained in the Pentagon, “institutionalizes trilateral security cooperation between the defense departments” of the countries, which includes political consultations, information exchange, trilateral exercises and “cooperation in the field of defense exchanges with the aim of promoting peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, India-Pacific region and beyond".

The memorandum was signed at a trilateral meeting of the heads of military departments. General security issues were also discussed, the Pentagon said.
