Canada does not support accusations of genocide against Israel

Baku. TurkicWorld:

Canada does not support accusations of genocide against Israel, said Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, TurkicWorld reports.

The Prime Minister noted that, the Canadian government's support for the International Court of Justice does not mean it supports the genocide claim brought by South Africa.

Furthermore, Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie said in a written statement that they are closely monitoring the case at the International Court of Justice and that it is ongoing.

“According to the 1948 UN Genocide Convention, the crime of genocide requires an intent to destroy or partially destroy a group on the basis of its nationality, ethnic origin, race or religion. Exceeding this high limit requires convincing evidence," she said.

The minister added that, they would not allow the trial to be used to promote anti-Semitism.

Moreover, the Republic of South Africa (CAR) recently stated to the International Court that Israel killed more than 23,500 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, at least 70% of whom were women and children.
