TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, July 19. Uzbekistan generated 1.6 billion KWh of green energy from January through June 2024, TurkicWorld reports.
The news followed a videoconference meeting dedicated to reviewing the work carried out in the first half of the year to ensure economic growth rates and the upcoming tasks chaired by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
As a result of the reforms in the sector, green energy has been generated from 10 solar and wind power stations with a total capacity of 2.4 gigawatts. This made it possible to cut gas consumption by half a billion cubic meters.
Furthermore, the country plans to reduce energy consumption by 15 percent. A total of 20 large enterprises are expected to reduce costs to 8.3 trillion soums ($658.2 million), or 10 percent.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan plans to increase its share of renewable energy to 40 percent by 2030.
According to the Uzbek president's office, the country will connect the first 2.6 GW of 14 solar and wind power plants to the grid this year. As a result, the share of renewable energy in Uzbekistan's total electricity generation will increase from 9 percent to 15 percent.
Currently, Uzbekistan is building 32 green energy facilities with a total capacity of 18.3 GW worth $19 billion, jointly with foreign partners.
