ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, July 24. Turkmenistan and Pakistan discussed the current state of implementation of TAPI and TAP energy projects, TurkicWorld reports.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, these topics were discussed during a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, acting as chairmen of their countries in the Turkmen-Pakistani and Pakistani-Turkmen joint intergovernmental commissions on trade and economic cooperation, respectively.
During the talks, the sides exchanged views on the expansion of trade and the economic partnership between Turkmenistan and Pakistan.
A separate topic between the diplomats was the discussion of the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) transnational gas pipeline project, as well as the laying of power transmission lines and fiber-optic communication along the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) route.
It is expected that the TAPI gas pipeline will annually transport 33 billion cubic meters of natural gas along an 1800-kilometer route from Turkmen Galkynysh, the second largest gas field in the world, to the Indian city of Fazilka, located near the border of India with Pakistan.
The TAP project is a large-scale infrastructural and economic initiative aimed at establishing links between the participating countries of the project in order to ensure energy and communication integration, as well as stimulate economic growth and development in the region.
