BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 6. The Finnish website "Naapuriseuran Sanomat" has published an article detailing Armenia's mine terror against Azerbaijan, the history of the Karabakh conflict, and efforts to normalize relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, TurkicWorld reports.
The article was authored by Jaakko Laakso, a political scientist and former deputy head of the Finnish delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Western European Union.
The article notes Azerbaijan's military efforts to liberate its territories during the 44-day Patriotic War, the maintenance of sovereignty through local anti-terrorist measures conducted by Azerbaijan's Armed Forces in Karabakh in September 2023, and the significant political support Azerbaijan received from Türkiye during this period.
Laakso touches upon the issues of the forced displacement of Azerbaijanis by Armenians during the First Karabakh War, their relocation, and their transformation into refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs).
He highlights the conditions Azerbaijan has created to protect the rights of Armenians living in Karabakh and their integration into a tolerant society, demonstrating humanitarianism.
In his article, Laakso discusses the reconstruction efforts in the liberated areas and the return of IDPs to their homes. He notes that Azerbaijan has consistently shown commitment to peace, stability, and friendly relations among the peoples of the South Caucasus.
Laakso also mentions that demining the areas previously occupied by Armenia will take many years and require substantial financial resources and that Armenia has not provided minefield maps.
To note, Jakko Laakso visited Azerbaijan from August 20 through August 24 of this year, supported by the State Committee for Work with Diaspora and the "Azerbaijan-Finland Friendship Society." He also met with various institutions during his visit.
