BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 28. On 30 September 2026, the international exhibition “The Mystery of the Azure Dome”, prepared by the “Azret Sultan” National Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve of the Republic of Kazakhstan, will open at the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan in Baku.
The exhibition is being held with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, as part of efforts to strengthen cultural and humanitarian cooperation and promote the shared heritage of the Turkic peoples.
The project continues the systematic work undertaken in implementation of the instructions of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to study, preserve, and widely promote the legacy of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi in Kazakhstan and abroad.
The exhibition introduces visitors to the historical and cultural heritage of ancient Turkistan and highlights the significance of the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi as an outstanding monument of medieval architecture and one of the region’s most important spiritual centres.
Particular attention is given to the architecture and epigraphy of the mausoleum. Visitors will have an opportunity to see authentic 12th-century terracotta tiles, fragments of 14th-century glazed decoration, elements of majolica and mosaics, as well as photographs of the unique Kufic inscriptions and Arabic calligraphy adorning the mausoleum.
At the heart of the exhibition are two models of the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi. One reveals the internal structure of the complex and the arrangement of its principal spaces, while the other presents the monument’s complete architectural appearance.
A separate section is dedicated to the spiritual and intellectual legacy of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi. It features manuscripts and materials related to Yasawi’s heritage, the “Nasabnama” — a genealogy, as well as books by his followers, reflecting the influence of his teachings on the spiritual traditions of the Turkic peoples.
The exhibition in Baku is intended to contribute to the further strengthening of cultural ties between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, the development of museum cooperation, and the international promotion of the rich historical and cultural heritage of Turkic civilization.
The official opening ceremony will take place on 30 September 2026 at 11:00 at the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan in Baku.
