Maersk starts to acquire green-fueled container ships

BAKU, Azerbaijan, 28 August. The world’s largest transport and logistics group, A.P. Moller-Maersk, has started to acquire green-fueled container ships since the beginning of 2024, TurkicWorld reports citing Maersk’s press service.

The company has already acquired four vessels capable of using green methanol as bunker fuel.

The vessel "Alette Maersk," acquired in August, has a capacity of 16.000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) and was built at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HD HHI) shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea.

Maersk plans to take delivery of a total of 25 dual-fuel ships operating on methanol. Orders have been placed with South Korea Hyundai Heavy Industries’ shipyard and Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, as well as China’s Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group.

To note, Maersk is pursuing a fleet renewal program aimed at achieving zero emissions by 2027.
