Kazakhstan unveils progress on Middle Corridor dev't

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 27. The government of Kazakhstan has shared information on steps to implement the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR, or Middle Corridor) project, TurkicWorld reports.

According to the information, the report noted that "the government of Kazakhstan, together with the governments of Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye is working on the realization of the Road Map on the elimination of ‘bottlenecks’ and development of the Middle Corridor until 2027".

"This work will allow the capacity of this route to increase up to 10 million tons per year," the information says.

Furthermore, a unified multimodal service has been created along the corridor to increase the route's attractiveness and competitiveness.

"Currently, the information systems of the railroads of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are integrated with the customs module of the DTC (Digital Trade Corridor) platform - Tez Customs, and similar work is planned with Georgian railroads. These achievements confirm the effectiveness of joint work with partners and the importance of the development of the Middle Corridor. The interest in its establishment as a stable and competitive route is shown not only by the countries along the corridor but also by the regions of Southeast Asia, the Persian Gulf, and Europe," the information reads.

To note, TITR has been operating for 10 years, but the last two years have been especially active. Following the results of seven months of 2024, transportation along TITR amounted to 2.56 million tons, which is 63 percent more than in the same period last year. A total of 2.7 million tons were transported along the route in 2023, and more than 4.2 million tons are expected this year.
