Kazakhstan suggests South Korea increasing transit of freight via the Trans-Caspian international transport route, deputy prime minister – foreign minister of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu said at the 16th Forum of Cooperation ‘Central Asia – Republic of Korea’, Kazinform Agency correspondent in Ashgabat reports.

Enhancement of our trade and investment ties is closely connected with infrastructure development of the key transit and transport hubs along the North – South and East – West directions. The Trans-Caspian international transport route and Kazakh terminal in China’s port city Lianyungang are of strategic importance in terms of cooperation between Europe and Asia, Central and East Asia, said the Kazakh minister.

In this context, Nurtleu drew attention to the capacity of the Middle Corridor with the use of Kazakh eco-ports Aktau and Kuryk is to gradually expand to up to 500 thousand containers by 2030.

This step will enable to significantly decrease the transit time of containers from East Asia to Europe to 12 days. We suggest South Korea increasing transit of freight via the Trans-Caspian international transport route as well as take part in joint construction of transport ships and establishment of logistics hubs, said the Kazakh foreign minister.
