Azerbaijani, Turkish railway companies explore Middle Corridor traffic growth opportunity

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 20. Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) CJSC and Turkish TCDD Tasimacilik (State Railways) company have discussed the Middle Corridor traffic growth opportunity, TurkicWorld reports via the CJSC.

The discussion took place during the meeting of ADY Chairman Rovshan Rustamov with the General Director and Chairman of the Board of TCDD Ufuk Yalcin as part of the meeting of heads of railway administrations on the creation of the International Association "Eurasian Transport Route," taking place on September 19-20, 2024, in Baku.

At the second meeting of the year, the parties also reviewed main areas and prospects for developing cooperation between the two brotherly countries in the railway sector.

Besides, the meeting featured an exchange of views on the potential for increasing freight transport along the Middle Corridor following the modernization of the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars (BTK) railway line.

Additionally, the meeting pointed out that Azerbaijan and Türkiye play a crucial role in the transportation of goods from East to West, as well as in the reverse direction, and are taking joint steps to boost freight transport along the BTK through the Middle Corridor.

The Middle Corridor connects container rail freight networks between China and the European Union via Central Asia, the Caucasus, Türkiye, and Eastern Europe.

The route boosts cargo traffic between China and Türkiye, as well as between European countries, and vice versa. A train along this corridor can deliver cargo from China to Europe in an average of 20–25 days, a key advantage of this transport route.
