In Kyrgyzstan, remittances of migrants equal to 30% of GDP

Bishkek, Nov. 26, 2021 . / Kabar / . Working age population continues to leave the country, Minister of Economy and Commerce of Kyrgyzstan Daniyar Amangeldiev said during a meeting of the Security Council of the republic on Friday, Kabar reported.

In the last five years, remittances were equal to an average of 30% of GDP (2016-2020).

"This exceeds the budget expenditures of the entire country ($2.1 billion) and significantly the amount of foreign direct investment. It is necessary to create jobs in the country by opening new enterprises, introducing additional agricultural areas, implementing in full the work to improve the irrigation system, creating clusters - so we can start this work," the minister added.
