Uzbekistan’s Navoi region and the regions of China develop collaboration

Hokim of Navoi region Normat Tursunov held a virtual meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to the People’s Republic of China Farkhod Arziyev.

Representatives of the Hokimiyat and the Embassy exchanged views on the current issues consistent with the plan for sustainable economic and social development, prospects for the development of mutually beneficial cooperation between the major provinces of China and Navoi region, as well as priorities in this direction. In particular, an agreement was reached on signing a roadmap for 2023 to accelerate the trade, economic and investment cooperation between Navoi and China.

The document defines several priority tasks to be implemented this year, in particular, the signing of a Cooperation Agreement with Fujian Province, the creation of the Uzbekistan – China Industrial Park in Navoi with the participation of leading Chinese companies, the implementation of investment projects in this complex in chemistry, building materials and other important industries, establishing cooperation between the Navoi FEZ Directorate and the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone.

The parties also agreed to hold in February a training workshop on poverty reduction in Navoi region based on Chinese experience. To further increase the capacity of electricity generation enterprises, views were exchanged on the introduction of the Chinese system for the production of alternative electricity at large industrial enterprises in Navoi and the implementation of projects aimed at the production of solar panels in the region.

The prospects for the development of the mining, chemical, mechanical engineering, textile and building materials industries were discussed. Opportunities for foreign, including Chinese, investors in the region were analyzed. The issue of accelerating the process of Chinese investment in the economy of Uzbekistan was considered.
