Kyrgyzstan, Russia agree on prompt launch of passenger rail service

Bishkek, April 27, 2022 . / Kabar/ . Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Russia Gulnara-Klara Samat met on Tuesday with Deputy Director General of Russian Railways JSC Vyacheslav Pavlovsky, Kabar reported.

Given the high demand of citizens of Kyrgyzstan to travel by land transport because of its convenience and accessibility, the main topic of the meeting was the resumption of regular passenger rail transport between Kyrgyzstan and Russia.

The Kyrgyz ambassador emphasized that the Protocol of the 23rd meeting of the Kyrgyz-Russian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Humanitarian Cooperation, the meeting of which was held on April 14 in Moscow, the instruction was given to the competent authorities of the Kyrgyz and Russian sides to "ensure the resumption of railway and road passenger traffic in the shortest possible time, given the sanitary-epidemiological situation.

During the meeting, an agreement was noted on the possibility of transit through the territory of Kazakhstan of regular passenger rail transport between Kyrgyzstan and Russia on the basis of a certificate with a negative PCR test result, as well as highlighted the low rate of infection with a new coronavirus infection in the Kyrgyz Republic.

The interlocutors agreed that the resumption of passenger rail transportation between the two countries will contribute to increased business contacts, the growth of mutual travel of citizens and the Kyrgyz-Russian bilateral trade turnover.

As a result of negotiations, the positive position and interest of Russian Railways JSC in the earliest launch of passenger rail transportation between Kyrgyzstan and Russia was received.

Until March 17, 2020 (closure of borders due to the pandemic) passenger trains were running between Kyrgyzstan and Russia on the routes Bishkek-Moscow 2 times a week, Bishkek-Novosibirsk 1 time in 8 days, Bishkek-Kazan 1 time a week.
