Baku. Azerbaijan. July 31. We strongly support the peace initiatives implemented by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan together with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, TurkicWorld reports.
This was stated by US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O'Brien at a hearing on "The Future of Europe" in the Subcommittee on Regional and Security Cooperation of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.
O'Brien noted that Russia is trying to interfere with peace and wants everything that happens there to happen on its own terms. "I think both countries, namely Azerbaijan and Armenia, are a little disappointed by Russia's involvement. We are working hard to ensure that the desire for peace is reflected in the agreement. I want to emphasize how important a peace agreement is. Look at the map. The Central Asian countries are quite wealthy, but their global access routes to markets go through Russia and China. If the routes through Azerbaijan and Armenia are opened, these countries will have access to global markets and their dependence on Russia and China will be reduced. China will be smaller. This will give countries more opportunities to enter global markets," O'Brien added.
