Zangezur corridor's opening to be important step for entire South Caucasus - Israeli expert

The opening of the Zangezur corridor will undoubtedly be an important step for the entire South Caucasus and Russia since this railway line will connect Armenia, Russia, and Iran, Israeli lawyer, expert for international law and international politics Mikhail Finkel told Turkic.World.

According to Finkel, this step will help strengthen the business and bring benefits to all countries.

The expert stressed that Armenia is in no hurry to open the Zangezur corridor despite the above.

"It’s necessary to correctly assess the behavior of Armenia over the past three weeks, when its armed forces brazenly, in the most terrorist manner fired at Azerbaijani troops, which is a flagrant violation of international law and the November statement [between presidents of Azerbaijan, Russia and Armenia’s prime minister to end the 2020 Karabakh war],” he said.

“This is an unprecedented impertinence, and the shellings are a classic display of terrorist activity," Finkel added.

According to him, he doesn’t see any desire on the part of Armenia to go through the agreements signed with the mediation of Russia in November 2020.

"Intensification of shelling, lack of desire to cooperate, refusal to provide maps of minefields for the remaining districts [along with Aghdam, Fuzuli, and Zangilan]- all this prompts thoughts of Armenia’s revanchist sentiments, and even its desire to provoke the next Karabakh war,” he also noted.

“Of course, any attempts to provide Armenia with weapons and modernize its armed forces will only increase the unhealthy appetite of the Armenian side to try to reconsider the current results of the Second Karabakh War. All this is very alarming and goes in the wrong direction," concluded the expert.
