Azerbaijan to adopt national strategy for rational use of water resources

The “National Strategy for Rational Use of Water Resources” covering the period 2024-2040, the adoption of which is expected in the coming days, envisages measures in the field of effective use, management, and prevention of water pollution in the country, desalination of seawater, modernization of irrigation systems, as well as the use of water resources of Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions, Prime Minister Ali Asadov said, TurkicWorld reports.

He made the remark during a speech in the Cabinet of Ministers at the discussion of the draft state budget and consolidated budget for 2025 and indicators of the consolidated budget for the next three years, the concept and forecast indicators of economic and social development for 2025 and the next three years.

Asadov also noted that in line with the tasks stemming from the large-scale reforms of the head of state in the humanitarian sphere, especially in the field of education, activities will be continued to bring the national education system in line with modern standards, to improve the quality of education.

“Reforms related to the introduction of a medium-term expenditure framework, and transition to a result-oriented budget mechanism will be continued. It is planned to involve health care, social protection and social security, culture, art, information, physical education, youth policy, and other spheres in the reforms during 2025-2028. Control over the economical, targeted use of budget funds and efficiency will be strengthened.

Azerbaijan's position in the Open Budget Index-2023 report has significantly improved in recent years as a result of measures aimed at increasing budget transparency and accountability. Thus, in the report among 125 countries, Azerbaijan has risen 21 steps from 44th to 23rd place and entered the group of countries with adequate budget transparency. Work in this direction will be continued.

The reforms aimed at stimulating the investment climate and entrepreneurial activity, reducing the tax burden of business entities, and improving the mechanisms of tax control and tax and customs administration will be continued in the tax code.

In close coordination of fiscal and monetary policies in line with the borrowing strategy, work on the development of the domestic financial market will continue. Ensuring macroeconomic stability and low, single-digit inflation for sustainable economic growth will also be one of the government's main tasks next year. Particularly, work will be continued to improve the Price Tracking App system,” the prime minister said.
