UNESCO adopts resolution initiated by Kyrgyzstan on preservation of mountain glaciers

Bishkek, Nov. 24, 2021 . / Kabar / . During a meeting of the 41st sessionof the General Conference of UNESCO on Nov. 2 in Paris, member states of the organization unanimously supported the resolution "Enhanced Monitoring and Research on Mountain Glaciers," initiated by Kyrgyzstan.

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov announced the initiative at the General Debate of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly in September this year in New York, Kabar reported citing thepress service of the Kyrgyz president.

The main goal of the resolution is to strengthen international cooperation on monitoring and research of mountain glaciers and permafrost through joint actions to ensure safe and stable environment for future generations based on the principles of sustainable development and implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
